Remember that you may only be granted a divorce 1 year after the date of separation. Usually, all separation issues have to be resolved (e.g. property, support) prior to the divorce order. Once the divorce documents are all filed, it may take four to six months for the divorce to be granted, depending on the municipality.

Child custody is decided based on the best interest of the child. The term for child custody in Ontario is now decision-making responsibility. Custody or decision-making is different than parenting time.
